We have the honour to acknowledge receipt of

your despatch dated 22/1/29 and insofar as assisting

to reduce the likelihood of resentment against the

Authkritien exposed to the imputation of hindering

the searching of vessels operating above Ichang, we

have the honour to inform you that on our part we would

oppose no objection to the thorough search of this

Company's vessels, not only so far as the Chinese

Quarters are concerned but also the officers' cabins

and stateroom (one) by the representatives of the Opium

Suppression Bureau and also the representatives of the

Bavigation Bursau both at Ichang and Chungking, provid-

ed the officer in charge of the search party acting

under the orders of these organizations produced for

the inspection of the Master of the vessel a pass or

document of identity which had been verified by H.M.

Consular representative at the port and stamped by him

as in order, it being understood that the search parfy

would be accompanied during their search by an officer

belonging/
